The Central Mass Gators’ 6U coed flag football team stunned spectators by earning a bronze medal at the Summer Kickoff Classic AAU Junior Olympic qualifier just two months after tryouts. Despite the 7U squad finishing 0-4, both teams exemplified determination and growth in their first full season. Head coach Brandon Hamilton praised the 6U group’s unselfish play, noting that every athlete recorded a score or conversion on the day. They only conceded points to nationally ranked teams 32 Sports and the Upstate Bandits, shutting out all other opponents. This historic milestone in Fitchburg highlights the program’s rapid ascent and the families’ commitment.

Chicago Pride Bowl LGBTQ+ flag football tournament held at Montrose Beach

Montrose Beach buzzed with energy as over fifty teams converged for the second annual Chicago Pride Bowl, one of the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ flag football events. Sponsored by the Chicago Bears and organized by the Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association, the two-day event featured seven competitive divisions. Players praised the blend of fierce competition and welcoming camaraderie that fostered new friendships and amplified visibility. The lakefront setting alongside Pride weekend celebrations underscored sport’s power to unite diverse communities. Bears volunteers and club donations reinforced a message of inclusion well beyond the scoreboards.

Roberts named Select Bowl MVP at US Select Bowl; earns tryout for national team

New Britain standout Kayla Roberts delivered key plays—including a go-ahead touchdown and an interception—in leading Team Grey to gold at the 16U US Flag Football Select Bowl in Los Angeles. Her performance earned her tournament MVP honors and a place on the All-Tournament Team out of 48 players nationwide. By securing MVP, Roberts also clinched an automatic tryout for the 17U USA National Team next year. Off the field, she made memories in Santa Monica and bonded with fellow athletes. As she gears up for her sophomore basketball season, she’ll continue flag football training with the Lady Matrix.
