Kanelland Girls Flag Football: Starting a Student-Led Club for 2024–25 Season
✨ Coach, Parents & Player Tips
Coach’s Clipboard: Have your receivers master the “stop-and-split”—plant hard on the inside shoulder, burst outside, then cut back to the flat like a fish slipping off a hook. That sneaky double-move will have defenders scratching their heads and your routes looking like highlight reels.
Postgame Parents: After practice, have your kiddo roll a tennis ball under each hip for 30 seconds—this quick self-massage loosens tight muscles, speeds up recovery for any sport, and guarantees a few hilarious wobble-worthy moments you two can laugh about.
Players Snap: Test your game-day breakfast on a practice morning—eat half of it to see if your gut holds up. Nothing kills momentum faster than a cramp blitzing you five minutes before kickoff.

🏅 The growing desire for girls flag football at Kaneland
Kaneland High School students are pushing to launch an official girls flag football program after the IHSA recognized the sport for the 2024–25 season, mirroring rapid statewide growth in female participation. Despite a strong turnout at interest meetings, the inability to secure a coach has shifted discussions toward starting as a student-led club to build momentum and ensure equitable athletic opportunities.
“I think we should definitely make a flag football team at our school because it would get a lot more girls involved in school sports, and so many people have interest in it,” Kraus said.
