UTA Among First NCAA Schools Launching Division I Women’s Flag Football Spring 2027
✨ Coach, Parents & Player Tips
Coach’s Clipboard: Before loading the bus, run a 60-second sideline sweep—gear lined up by jersey number, water bottles filled, whistle at the ready—so you skip the frantic halftime scavenger hunt and actually get to sip your coffee.
Postgame Parents: Encourage your kid to send a quick, goofy “Great hustle!” voice note or sticker to a teammate after practice—those off-field shout-outs build trust, spark smiles, and turn a bunch of players into a true team.
Players Snap: Protect the rock by pinning it high and tight under your arm—loose balls are freebies, so tuck like your life depends on it.
🔎 Feature Story
🏅 Decades after UTA cut its tackle football program, it’s one of the first schools to offer women’s flag football
The University of Texas at Arlington will launch Division I Women’s Flag Football in spring 2027, joining a select group of six NCAA programs ahead of the sport’s Olympic debut in Los Angeles 2028. This strategic addition underscores UTA’s ongoing commitment to expanding opportunities for female athletes and revitalizing its historic football legacy.
“I talked to several other trainers that have girls in their athletic training program, but they have never worked football before,” said Lane. “So we are pioneering in that aspect, I suppose, in this particular area, and it has worked well so far. No problems at all.”

Tom Brady is coming out of retirement to play in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic in Riyadh next March alongside NFL stars, with coverage on Fox Sports and Tubi and hosting by Kevin Hart.
Critics warn that Saudi Arabia’s co-organization of the inaugural flag football tournament headlined by Tom Brady reflects “sportswashing,” even as the event adopts the five-on-five Olympic format and marks Brady’s first competitive action since 2023.
