Section 2 Indoor Girls’ High School Winter Flag Football League Launches Third Season
✨ Coach, Parents & Player Tips
Coach’s Clipboard: Sneak strength into your sprints—have players hug a light medicine ball on the dart to the end zone, then drop it and race back for flags; they’ll build power before they even notice, and their huffing makes the best sideline soundtrack.
Postgame Parents: Teach your kid the “3-2-1 power count”: before each play they silently name 3 things they can control, take 2 deep belly breaths, and flash 1 big game-face smile—instantly swapping jitters for confidence (and bonus giggles on the sideline!).
Players Snap: Load a backpack with books and sneak in 3×12 walking lunges on your way to class or the fridge—strong legs are the secret sauce behind those lightning-fast cuts.

🏅 New girls’ flag football winter league heats up excitement for third season in Section 2
Capital Region advocates and the Kidz First Youth Development Network have launched the inaugural Indoor Girls’ High School Winter League, featuring eight Section 2 schools in a condensed, 40-yard indoor format to extend girls’ flag football development and accessibility year-round. With participation rising from 12 to 23 schools in two years, the winter league offers structured coaching interventions and competitive play ahead of the Spring 2026 season.
“Going into our third official year of Section 2, now teams are more established,” said Kidz First board member Frank Rogers. “They’re getting the conditioning in year-round, they’re getting practices in the offseason, they’re going to camps, they’re going to tournaments, and this was the next logical step, was for us to get together and really help Section 2 overall by creating a winter indoor program so we’re not just facing each other on our own gym floor space.”
