SCAC Introduces Women’s Varsity Flag Football in 2026-27 Season

✨ Coach, Parents & Player Tips

Coach’s Clipboard: During water breaks, line ’em up for a quick 10-yard shuttle sprint before they sip—instant game-speed agility work, no extra practice time, and you’ll look like a coaching genius (or at least the fun one).

Postgame Parents: Turn a simple envelope into your kid’s “Team Time Capsule”—after each practice they drop in a quick note praising a teammate, then pop it open at the last game to relive the funniest plays and biggest wins (and maybe shed a happy tear or two).

Players Snap: Show up 15 minutes early, triple-check your cleats and flag belt, then run a quick shuffle drill—better to tighten a loose lace now than trip over it chasing flags.

🏅 SCAC Adds Women’s Flag Football

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference will introduce women’s flag football as its 19th varsity sport in the 2026-27 season, with the inaugural championship slated for spring 2027. Affiliate membership will begin for Millsaps College alongside Centenary, Concordia (Texas) and Hendrix College, bolstering regional participation and aligning with nationwide varsity flag football expansion toward NCAA Emerging Sport status and the LA 2028 Olympics. This strategic move broadens competitive opportunities for female student-athletes and underscores the sport’s rapid growth at the collegiate level.

“We are thrilled to officially add women’s flag football as a conference-sponsored sport,” said SCAC commissioner Dwayne Hanberry.
