Ohio High School Girls Flag Football 2026 Expansion to 16 Teams With OHSAA Sponsorship
✨ Coach, Parents & Player Tips
Coach’s Clipboard: Before every game, assign “gear buddies” and let them run through a 90-second checklist—if someone’s missing cleats, flags, or water, they owe their buddy a goofy sideline dance, turning last-minute panic into laughs and perfect prep.
Postgame Parents: String yarn across your hallway at varying heights and challenge your kid to crab-walk under one, hop over the next, then explode into a sprint through the last—this ninja-style drill sneaks in core, leg-power, and coordination training. Brace yourself for giggles (and a few epic “laser-beam” sound effects)!
Players Snap: Pick your recovery spot before kickoff—shady bench or tarp under a tree. When cramps attack, you’ll dive into ice and rest instead of circling the sidelines like a lost pup.

🏅 Girls flag football is growing in Ohio. What to know for 2026 season
Girls flag football in Ohio has expanded from four to sixteen central Ohio high school teams for the 2026 season, fueled by OHSAA sponsorship after a ninefold statewide growth since 2021. With practices beginning Feb. 23 and the state championship set for May 16 at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, this surge cements the sport’s competitive foundation ahead of its planned 2028 Olympic debut.
“It’s here to stay,” said Mike Daniels, the OHSAA’s flag football coordinator. “It’s going to be an Olympic sport in 2028. … This is not anything small-scale.”
